Tega Cay, Fort Mill, York, Rock Hill, York County and Catawba Indian Nation Recognized for Watershed Protection Efforts by Lt. Governor Evette

Lt. Governor Evette and SCDES will honor local governments for their cooperative efforts to protect watersheds.

Columbia, S.C. Several local governments and organizations are being honored by the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) and Lt. Governor Pamela Evette for their successful cooperation on watershed planning and protection in and around York County.

Participants from several York County entities, including Fort Mill, Tega Cay, Rock Hill, the City of York, York County, the Catawba Regional Council of Governments, and the Catawba Indian Nation, make up the Watershed Evaluation Team (WET), a working group. To better understand and manage York County’s water resources, these stakeholders convened the WET in 2022. The WET has created watershed plans for their area through collaboration, and they are currently working to put the changes they have identified into action.

WHAT: SCDES’ Power of Partnerships award for cooperative environmental preservation activities is presented.

The first beneficiaries of SCDES’ Power of Partnerships recognition award, which will be given to individuals who exhibit exceptional cooperation and partnership in safeguarding and conserving South Carolina’s natural resources, will be the WET stakeholder group.
