Timeline and Arrest: Syracuse Police Identify Suspect in Devonte Crosby Homicide

(WNY News Now) – Following the tragic death of Devonte Crosby in Syracuse, swift action and thorough investigation by police led to the arrest of a suspect.

Syracuse, N.Y. – In the early morning hours of November 13, 2024, at approximately 6:56 a.m., Syracuse Police Officers responded to an emergency call on Oswego Street, where a report of a stabbing had been made. Upon arrival, officers found 31-year-old Devonte Crosby, born on April 26, 1993, suffering from a serious stab wound to his torso. First responders from AMR attempted life-saving measures on the scene, but Crosby was ultimately pronounced dead from his injuries.

Immediately after the incident, Syracuse Police’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Homicide Unit launched an investigation. Detectives worked tirelessly, conducting interviews with potential witnesses, performing a neighborhood canvass, and executing search warrants. Their efforts yielded critical evidence, leading them to identify a suspect, Tyler Kilmer, aged 29, whose date of birth is January 24, 1995.

Just minutes after the initial report, at approximately 7:07 a.m., Kilmer was apprehended by officers from the Syracuse Police Department’s Patrol Division. Kilmer was taken into custody at the same Oswego Street location without incident and transported to the Criminal Investigation Division for further processing. He is currently held at the Onondaga County Justice Center, awaiting arraignment.

Kilmer has been formally charged with multiple offenses in connection with Crosby’s death. The charges include Manslaughter in the First Degree, under New York Penal Law 125.20, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, under Penal Law 265.02. As the case remains active, investigators are continuing their work to gather additional information and ensure a thorough examination of all evidence.
