Trump picks Brooke Rollins to be agriculture secretary

The president-electBrooke Rollins, head of the America First Policy Institute, has been appointed agriculture secretary by Donald Trump.

According to a statement released by Trump, Brooke will lead the charge to defend American farmers, who are genuinely the foundation of our nation, as our new Secretary of Agriculture.

Rollins would oversee a 100,000-person organization with offices in every county in the US if the Senate confirmed him. The agency’s duties would include commerce, agricultural research, forestry, home and farm lending, food safety, rural development, farm and nutrition programs, and more. In 2024, its budget was $437.2 billion.

Both urban and rural Americans’ diets and finances would be impacted by the nominee’s plan. Among other things, Department of Agriculture employees and representatives negotiate trade agreements, provide nutrition guidelines, inspect meat, combat wildfires, and assist with rural internet.

According to Trump’s statement, Brooke’s dedication to helping American farmers, defending American food self-sufficiency, and reviving small towns that depend on agriculture is unmatched.

The staff of the right-wing think organization America First Policy Institute has collaborated extensively with Trump’s campaign to help mold policies for his prospective administration. During the first term of Trump, she served as the chair of the Domestic Policy Council.

During a time when the industry is hoping to expand through the manufacture of sustainable aviation fuel, Rollins, as agriculture secretary, would advise the administration on whether and how to implement clean fuel tax credits for biofuels.

In the midst of disagreements over Canada’s dairy import restrictions and Mexico’s attempt to restrict the import of genetically modified corn, the nominee would also serve as the leader of the renegotiation of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement next year.

Trump has stated once more that he intends to impose broad tariffs that are probably going to have an impact on the agriculture industry.

CNN said on Friday that he was thinking of offering the position to former U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler, a close friend whom he selected to co-chair his inauguration committee.
