Trump says he’s going to Paris in his first trip abroad as president-elect

Donald Trump, the president-elect, said Monday that he will be visiting Paris this weekend, marking his first international trip since winning the election in November.

“It is an honor to announce that I will be traveling to Paris, France, on Saturday to attend the re-opening of the Magnificent and Historic Notre Dame Cathedral, which has been fully restored after a devastating fire five years ago,” Trump said on Truth Social. “The restoration of Notre Dame to its full splendor and beyond has been made possible by President Emmanuel Macron, who has done an amazing job. For everyone, it will be an extremely memorable day.

This is the president-elect’s first known journey outside of the United States since he traveled to his golf courses in Scotland and Ireland in May 2023.

After suffering damage from a fire in April 2019, the historic cathedral has been undergoing renovation. On December 7, Notre Dame will open to the public, although repair work is expected to take years.

The Archbishop of Paris Laurent Ulrich will preside over a Mass on December 8 where French President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to make remarks and witness the altar’s consecration.
