Trump’s immigration orders and Hughes Fire grows near Los Angeles: Morning Rundown

The Trump administration wants immigration restrictions to be enforced more strictly. To the north of Los Angeles, a fresh wildfire is consuming thousands of acres. Additionally, a trend driven by nostalgia is sparked by Bad Bunny’s most recent album.

What to know today is as follows.

Trump admin demands immigration enforcement crackdown

As the House passed the Laken Riley Act, President Donald Trump issued several executive orders that targeted his immigration goals and instructed the Justice Department to prioritize enforcement. This set the stage for the measure to be the first one Trump signs when he returns to the White House.

The Departments of Homeland Security, Justice, and State are instructed under an order issued yesterday to take all necessary steps to promptly repel, repatriate, and remove unlawful aliens over the southern U.S. border. The Trump administration issued a notice earlier this week to extend expedited removal, which permits Immigration and Customs Enforcement to remove migrants without following the proper procedures, to any undocumented individuals who have entered the country illegally during the past two years.

Trump would permit ports of entry to stay open to asylum seekers, White House spokesman Karoline Leavitt stated on Fox News. But hours after Trump took office, the CBP One app, which migrants had been using to schedule appointments and submit their information, ceased functioning, and any appointments that had already been made through the app were canceled.

As of Wednesday evening, deportations did not seem to have significantly increased.Learn more about the status of executive orders and directives pertaining to immigration on the third day of Trump’s presidency.

The Laken Riley Act, a stringent immigration law named for the 22-year-old Georgia nursing student who was murdered by an undocumented immigrant last year, was passed by the Republican-controlled House in the meantime. It is anticipated to be the first statute that Trump signs into effect after taking office again. According to the measure, unauthorized immigrants who are accused, detained, or found guilty of specific offenses must be held by ICE.Learn more about the bill.

Hughes Fire explodes to over 10,000 acres north of L.A.

About 31,000 people had to be evacuated due to a new, rapidly spreading wildfire north of Los Angeles that spread to 10,176 acres in a matter of hours, according to officials. There were also evacuation alerts for another 23,000 individuals. Fueled by dry, windy weather in the area, the Hughes Fire broke out near Castaic Lake in northern Los Angeles County at approximately 10:53 a.m. According to the National Weather Service, the region is under red flag warnings into Friday morning, with the possibility of wind gusts of up to 65 mph in the highlands. Winds were not as high as those that ignited the Eaton and Palisades fires a few weeks ago, and as of last night, the fire was 14% contained. What more do we know?

Investigations into the Eaton and Palisades fires, which caused extensive damage in other areas of the Los Angeles region, are ongoing at the time of the latest fire. According to an analysis of the Eaton Fire killings, all 17 fatalities occurred west of Lake Avenue, where evacuation orders were issued just hours after homeowners on the east side of the main road through Altadena received their initial round of evacuation advisories. A reassessment of emergency alerting systems has been demanded by local authorities.
