(WNY News Now) – Authorities have identified the man found deceased in Onondaga Creek as 39-year-old Zachariah Duffy; while an accidental cause is suspected, officials continue to investigate.
SYRACUSE, NY — Syracuse Police have identified the man found deceased in Onondaga Creek as Zachariah Duffy, age 39. On Sunday, November 10, 2024, around 7:35 a.m., officers responded to a report of a drowning in the 100 block of Gifford Street. The Syracuse Fire Department arrived on the scene to assist, and responders ultimately located Duffy’s body in the creek.
After a preliminary investigation, police currently believe the incident may have been accidental, though the investigation remains active and ongoing as they seek further details. Law enforcement is encouraging anyone with information regarding Duffy’s last known whereabouts or potential witnesses to come forward to help clarify the events leading up to this tragic incident.
