USDA issues health alert for Wegmans chicken nuggets due to bone fragments

Wegmans Food Markets’ frozen, fully cooked breaded chicken breast nuggets were the subject of a public health alert on Monday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service because they may contain bone fragments.

Wegmans Family Pack Fully Cooked Breaded Chicken Breast with Rib Meat packages weighing 46 ounces have been recognized as the impacted product. On the reverse of the container, you will see the best if used by date, which is August 26, 2025. On the packaging, the code P-33944 is printed inside the USDA inspection seal. According to the notice from the public health department, the product was manufactured on August 26, 2024.

Wegmans stores in Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. received the chicken nuggets. The agency stated that since the item is no longer available for purchase, no recall request was made.

According to FSIS, Wegmans was alerted after several customers complained about finding bone shards in the food. According to the EPA, there are no verified reports of consumption-related injuries.

“FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers,” the statement stated. “We strongly advise consumers who have already bought this product to avoid consuming it. You should either discard this item or return it to the store where you bought it.

An NBC News request for comment on Wegmans on Wednesday was not immediately answered.
