What we know after plane collides with helicopter near Reagan Washington National Airport

Washington On Wednesday evening, a military helicopter and a commercial aircraft collided in midair close to Reagan Washington National Airport.

The Army Black Hawk and an American Eagle airplane are both in the Potomac River. Three persons were aboard the helicopter, and 64 passengers were on the plane.

The event happened just before 9:00 p.m. ET. Due to the ongoing search and rescue effort, the exact number of casualties remains unknown.

In a statement released Wednesday evening, President Donald Trump claimed to have received a thorough briefing on the disaster. Thanking the first responders, he stated that he “will provide more details as they arise.”

On Thursday, the airport will remain closed until at least 11 a.m.
