(WNY News Now)Buffalo, NY The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Winter Storm Watch, alerting citizens of Southern Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Wyoming Counties to be ready for the potential of heavy lake-effect snow. From Friday morning until Monday morning, the watch is in force.
Storm Details
- What: Heavy lake-effect snow with accumulations of 7 inches or more. Wind gusts may reach up to 30 mph.
- Where: Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie Counties.
- When: November 29 through December 2, spanning the busy post-Thanksgiving travel weekend.
Impact Analysis
The length and severity of the storm may make travel in the impacted areas extremely challenging or impossible. Road conditions may change quickly due to low visibility caused by narrow snow bands. Temporary closures of major roads could cause problems for drivers returning from Thanksgiving celebrations.
The NWS stated that there is a great deal of uncertainty on the precise location of the bands and the amount of snow. However, caution is necessary due to the possibility of several bouts of intense snowfall. Residents are advised to keep a careful eye on weather updates and to avoid needless travel during periods of high storm activity.
