Winter Weather Advisory in Effect for Southern Erie County Until 7 PM

(WNY News Now) A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Southern Erie County by the Buffalo National Weather Service (NWS), which warns of dangerous road conditions and heavy snowfall through this evening.

Today, January 24, from 12:40 PM to 7:00 PM EST, the National Weather Service (NWS) Buffalo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory. In the most persistent snow bands, residents and commuters in Southern Erie County should brace themselves for an extra 3 to 5 inches of snowfall due to lake effect snow.

Effects:

  • Snow-covered and slippery road conditions are expected throughout the advisory period.
  • Visibility may be severely reduced, particularly during periods of heavier snowfall.
  • The Friday evening commute across the Buffalo Southtowns could be significantly impacted by hazardous conditions.

Safety Instructions: When driving in impacted regions, the NWS advises vehicles to reduce their speed and use caution. Roads coated in snow and having poor sight can be problematic, particularly during rush hour.

The public is urged to report snowfall via the NWS Buffalo website or social media accounts in order to assist in monitoring conditions.
