Hillsborough Deputy Carlos Brito on the Mend After Brandon Incident, Maintains Positive Outlook

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Deputy Carlos Brito of Hillsborough County is currently in the hospital, recovering from serious leg injuries sustained when a suspect drove a car into him and another deputy in Brandon last Thursday.

Sheriff Chad Chronister provided an update on Brito’s condition on Sunday, stating that Brito “is in great spirits, and the medical staff at TGH is doing everything possible to ensure his full recovery.” The sheriff also shared photos documenting Brito’s recovery.

The incident occurred when Brito and his colleague, Deputy Manny Santos, were responding to a call involving a mentally unstable person on Thursday. Santos, whose leg was shattered in the attack, announced on Saturday that he has been discharged from the hospital.

The suspected attacker, Ralph Bouzy, has been arrested and transferred to a mental facility. He is currently in jail.
