Shocking Newstead Accident: Fatal Collision Investigation Update!

On September 30, 2023, at 7:54 A.M., Troopers from SP Clarence responded to a three-vehicle collision on State Route 5 in Newstead.

The investigation revealed that a 2011 Kia and a 2017 Chevrolet were traveling eastbound on State Route 5. The Kia came to a stop to make a turn into a driveway, and unfortunately, the Chevrolet collided with the rear of the Kia. This impact caused the Chevrolet to veer across the center line, resulting in a head-on collision with a 2019 Honda. Tragically, Keith C. Wagner, a 54-year-old from Rochester, NY, and the driver of the Honda, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 18-year-old operator of the Kia sustained severe injuries and was transported to Erie County Medical Center by Mercy Flight. It is essential to note that the 18-year-old Kia operator was not wearing a seat belt.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing and was conducted with the assistance of NYSP Collision Reconstruction and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
