Terrifying Encounter: Fake Cop Targets Driver, Robs Cell Phone in Freehold!

A 46-year-old man was apprehended several days after allegedly stopping a driver and impersonating a local police officer before stealing their cell phone, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago.

Anthony Burke, a resident of Freehold Borough, faces charges of fourth-degree impersonation of an officer, second-degree robbery, and four counts of third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

On September 17th in Freehold Township, Burke, driving his own pickup truck, pulled over a driver, took the victim’s cell phone, and then quickly departed, as reported by Santiago.

Several days later, Burke was arrested on a Wednesday evening during a traffic stop in Freehold Borough.
